The glass becomes hot when an electric bulb is kept switched on. It is not so in the case of tube light.why?
This is something to do with the material and concept used is different.
Light Bulb
It emit light by having electric current to GO through a high resistance wire (It is manufactured to be in micro level of thickness) thus the wire will heated up in red hot burning condition. Approximately 60% of energy conversion is to light, the rest of it is heat.
Fluorescent Tube
It emit light by ionizing mercury vapour in a compressed glass tube; the fluorescent tube emits light through ionization of mercury vapour. Part of the UV light created by this process will be FILTERED by the thin layer of phosphor coated at the interior of the tube. The amount of resistance is very much lesser plus the percentage of energy conversion is increased.
